About Thomas Ind
Family
Thomas Ind was born in London in 1966 and is the
son of a doctor and ballet teacher. He has two
brothers and is the fourth generation of his
family to practice medicine. He is married to
Emma and has two children (Oliver and Emily).
Education
Thomas Ind
was educated at the Hampshire School (London),
Hill House (London), St Aubyns (Brighton),
Harrow (London), and St Bartholomew's Hospital
Medical College (London University). He
qualified in medicine in 1989 and started
specialising in gynaecology immediately after
his registration year.
Early
Medical Career
Thomas Ind
started his specialist training at St
Bartholomew's Hospital. After two years he took
a short break in clinical practice to study for
a doctoral thesis into the potential cancer
marker properties of Placental-type Alkaline
Phosphatase. His thesis was accepted by London
University in 1994. His clinical training
continued at Queen Charlotte's Hospital
(London), Hillingdon Hospital (London), Watford
Hospital (Hertfordshire), St George Hospital
(Sydney Australia), and St Mary's Hospital
(London). During this period his interests
developed in major gynaecological surgery,
cancers, and keyhole surgery. He was admitted as
a member of the Royal College of Obstetrician
and Gynaecologists in 1995. After becoming a
specialist he completed sub-specialist training
in gynaecological oncology at St Bartholomew's
and Royal Marsden Hospitals (London). His final
jobs as a resident doctor were at the Chelsea
and Westminster Hospital (London) and
Hammersmith Hospital (London).
Qualifications
In addition
to his medical degree, doctorate, and membership
to the Royal College of Obstetricans and
Gynaecologists (RCOG), Thomas Ind holds a number
of other registrations and certificates. He is a
registered specialist in gynaecology and
sub-specialist in gynaecological oncology by the
UK General Medical Council (GMC). He has been
certified by the Faculty of Family Planning and
has level III certification in laparoscopic
surgery from the RCOG. He is also certified by
the RCOG and BSCCP as a colposcopist.
Recent
Medical Career
Thomas Ind
was appointed consultant Gynaecological Surgeon
to St George's Hospital (London) and the Royal
Marsden Hospital (London) in 2002. He also has a
private practice based in Knightsbridge and
Harley Street. He is still active in research
and is the author of numerous academic papers,
books, and book chapters. He is an examiner for
newly qualified doctors, a surgical skills
tutor, and an advocate of laparoscopic surgery.
He maintains an strong interest in
gynaecological surgery, cancer, and colposcopy.
